(Day 10)
All our visits of Thursday was back in Barolo. It was already our 5th day in Piemonte, and 10 day since we came to Europe.
First appointment of the day was with Elio Grasso in Monforte d’Alba. We met Marina, Enrico, and Roberto there.
It’s a beautiful estate. They own 3 crus…Gavarini Chiniera (sandy soil), Ginestra Casa Mate (clay + limestone), and Runcot (30-year-old vines, only for riserva).
We did a tour of the winery first. They were just racking the wine from maceration and taking Nebbiolo grape leftovers from a big tank. It smelled nice.
We tasted the following wines:
2010 Dolcetto d’Alba
2010 Langhe, Nebbiolo
2008 Barbera d’Alba
2007 Barolo, “Gavarini Chiniera”
