Our Iga-yaki Donabe and Pottery on Food & Wine Magazine


I was so happy to see the latest (April 2017) issue of Food & Wine Magazine, because my friends, Kyle & Katina, and their restaurant, Single Thread Farms, are featured!

It's an extensive 8-page article, and many of our Iga-yaki donabe, including a full-page color photo of tagline-style donabe, Fukkura-san, and Katakuchi Ring Sake Pourer are beautifully featured!

Also, my DONABE Cookbook was selected in Serious Eats' Kitchen Essentials as one of the cookbooks they love! Yay.

Donabe egg recipes for Lucky Peach's All About Eggs


It was my honor to contribute Japanese egg recipes for All About Eggs Cookbook by Rachel Khong/ Lucky Peach!

I wrote Chawanmushi (savory custard) and TKG-TamagoKakeGohan (raw egg over rice) stories/recipes for the book. Chawanmushi is perfect to cook in donabe steamer, Mushi Nabe, and TKG is definitely great when the rice is cooked in double-lid donabe rice cooker, Kamado-san.

Besides my recipes, the book features all the essential information about egg cookery and recipes from different cultures. So, I hope you will check it out.

DONABE is nominated for 2016 IACP Cookbook Awards!

My first cookbook, DONABE - Classic and Modern Japanese Clay Pot Cooking is nominated for 2016 IACP (international Association of Culinary Professionals) Cookbook Awards in the International category. This highly competitive category has only 4 nominees and DONABE is in this short list! Autographed copy of DONABE Cookbook is available here.

Our Movie, "CRAFTED" Won TASTE Awards!


The movie, "Crafted", directed by Morgan Spurlock, featuring the Iga-yaki donabe producer family Nagatani-en has won the Best Documentary/ Short Film at this years The Taste Awards!! I wrote a  story about donabe smoker, “Ibushi Gin” and it is on a popular gourmet & recipe website, FOOD52, along with a donabe smoked duck recipe from my DONABE Cookbook! Great story about donabe cooking and culture on Japan Times. This is from the trip I organized for the photoshoot for DONABE Cookbook, and the article shares the donabe dining experience with the family at Nagatani-en and also introduces my DONABE Cookbook!

Japan Times is the largest English-language newspaper in Japan and there are subscribers (including online) all over the world.

Our donabe on Bon Appetit magazine!


I am so excited that our Iga-yaki donabe is featured on Bon Appetit magazine, both on the cover and inside! It's the latest January 2016 issue and titled, HEALTHY-ISH.

Inside, our double-lid donabe rice cooker, "Kamado-san", and donabe steamer, "Mushi Nabe", appear in 3 full-color full pages in the feature titled, "THE NEW HEALTHY 2016 - JAPANESE HOME COOKING", starting from page 82. Kamado-san is used to make a hot pot dish, and the recipes by Tadashi Ono and Harris Salat look so delicious!

**On page 90, our Mushi Nabe is introduced as the "stainless-steel steamer" by mistake, but it's obviously, authentic Iga-yaki donabe, so it's an earthen ware:-)

DONABE Cookbook on Media!


I am extremely humbled and honored that my first cookbook, DONABE - Classic and Modern Japanese Clay Pot Cooking, has been receiving great reviews in media recently!

In some of the very prominent newspapers/ publications, DONABE Cookbook made in each one's short list of top cookbooks.
