Trip to Hawaii (Maui - September 2010)...Wedding eve cocktail party and late-night ramen

On our Day 2 of this Maui stay, we spend afternoon in Honolua Bay.

The water here is so calm in the summer and it's a great snorkeling spot. I saw so many fish.

Our friends' wedding was already just a day away! In the evening, we were invited to a “wedding eve” cocktail party at the bride’s parents house.

Their house is situated right in front of the ocean in the north of Kahana. The house was so gorgeous with the breathtaking view that it felt like I was in a movie set or post card!! They also have a huge garden and we watched the sunset while drinking Mai Tai there.

In front of their house, we spotted two turtles! They were so beautiful. One of them finally started moving after being watched by us for a while. She turned around slowly and took off into the ocean.

The party was so much fun and we met so many wonderful people there. I think I ate and drank so much!

After the party, it was already close to 10pm, but Jason and I were hungry again. So, we drove to Star Noodle in Lahaina for late night noodles. They are a relatively new restaurant serving a variety of noodle dishes as well as unique Asian-style dishes made from fresh quality ingredients.

Pan-roasted Brussels sprouts with bacon and homemade kim chee puree. I really enjoyed this dish. The Brussels sprouts had a nice texture and the kim chee puree was really tasty.

I had their signature Star Ramen - pork broth, roasted pork, porched egg, bamboo shoot. The noodle was not the elastic kind and it was more like saimin. The broth was lighter than I thought and it was soothing. There were chunks of roasted pork (Hawaii style!) and they were tasty, too. Jason had Local Saimin - dashi broth, spam, kamaboko, green onions.

We also had dessert (I was already full but Jason wanted it). They were Malasadas with butter scotch caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, and peanuts. The malasadas were fried to order so they were very fresh. Their style was firmer than other malasadas I'ven known from Hawaii, so I thought they tasted almost like regular donuts.

The late night snack hit our spot.
